BTN Disclaimer

Recent events have brought it to my attention that I should probably post some sort of disclaimer. So here ‘tis.

BehindTheNet.org is my personal website, written on my own time (completely outside of work hours), and paid for out of my bank account. As such, the thoughts contained, expressed and/or implied here are mine and mine alone. That means no copying without attribution (my name and/or a link will suffice). This also means the comment section will be policed without mercy. I’m all for civil debate, and I won’t whack you for expressing a contrarian view. BUT trolls and comment-spammers will be deleted and IP-banned as soon as I notice what they’re up to. Further note: gratuitous profanity is frowned upon (let’s aim for PG-13 at worst, please). Thanks for cooperating.

But even more importantly, it means that no one else edits, fact-checks, or necessarily agrees with the thoughts that appear on my site. This includes, but is not limited to, my friends, my family, my employer (which is unnamed on this site for just this reason), my neighbors, and the guy in the car in front of me on I-64 West. Comments are the intellectual property of their writers (but may be deleted or edited by the medium provider, i.e. me); everything else is mine alone, and should not be construed as anyone’s collective opinion.

In terms of credibility, please remember that the only thing differentiating me from that guy you can’t stand on a sports message board or the AM radio call-in show is that I spent a few bucks on webhosting and a few hours personalizing the location where I choose to ramble. (As a matter of fact, I just might be that guy on certain message boards.) You write that guy off as a crank, so if you don’t like what you’re reading, don’t let the customized Web design dissuade you from doing the same for me. Do the research, know the facts, and form your own opinion. If you disagree with me, great. Heck, start your own blog. Unless you’re in Iran, China, Vietnam or Singapore, nothing’s stopping you.

So, welcome to BTN. While you’re here, use your brain, be considerate, and don’t believe everything you read on the Internet. Stick to that, and we’ll get along fine.
