Intemperate Thoughts: 24 August
With apologies to Neal Boortz for stealing an occasional section header of his for use as the title of this entry…
Surprise of the day: local daily the Richmond Times-Dispatch doing a front-page story on Virginia bloggers, featuring Will Vehrs of Shouting ‘Cross the Potomac, Ben Domenech and Meryl Yourish. Interesting part: Ellen Qualls of Gov. Mark Warner’s office mentioning that they keep track of bloggers for Virginia political insight. I doubt my VT/ACC 3 Stars column got much play, though… you’ve probably got to get above 5 regular readers for that.
Observation from the POÄNG chair: Lileks’s Star-Tribune column today (use cpunks/cpunks username/password if you don’t want to register) hits awfully close to home. It does appear that at least some of my Ikea furniture is made of real wood, though, instead of particle board.
Upon watching a Florida pitcher load the bases against Japan, hit two batters in a row (after taking the first to 3-2), then surrender a grand slam, while the opposing pitcher is throwing a no-hitter: How does it feel at 12 years old to lose the Little League World Series, all by yourself, on national television?
Typical: I post something promising more frequent updates, then disappear for the rest of the week. Not to worry. Coming soon will be reviews of The Diamond, Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium, and perhaps a comparison of the London and Paris mass transit systems from a tourist’s perspective.
And to close: a couple new blogroll entries, Gerritt’s Homepage and Frozen in Montreal. Paul at FiM is particularly amusing on his homeland of Canada and Quebec separatism, his category for which is titled Canuckistani Content.
Stay tuned, it’s gonna be a fun week.
