Realignment: Following Our Cues
The ACC is supposed to have a conference call Saturday morning. Given the record of previous ACC conference calls, I wouldn’t bet anything I cared about that there will be any definitive news.
Control of the situation, meanwhile, is even further out of our hands now than it has been before. If the ACC invite comes through (and whether it will seems to depend almost entirely on the mood of the person being asked), that question will be answered by the state government — and that answer WILL be yes.
As for me, I’m leaving the country. ;-) So I’ll leave you with some musical amusement, detailing how a 1970’s musical visionary foresaw the conference events of today.
Lawyers, Guns And Money

Well, I went home with the waitress
The way I always do
How was I to know
She was with the Russians, too
Clearly Miami is the waitress, and the ACC could be the Russians. Only problem here is that if you carry this further and envision the waitress as Donna Shalala, the idea of going home with her should make you want to puke.
I was gambling in Havana
I took a little risk
$90 million for a stadium for UConn to go I-A? That’s some serious gambling — as was $37 mil for VT stadium improvements, and $24 mil proposed for renovations at WVU.
Send lawyers, guns and money
Dad, get me out of this
That’d be VT, with Dad being the state government.
I’m the innocent bystander
The closest thing this event has to an innocent bystander is West Virginia, and that’s only because the academic snobs of the ACC flat-out rejected them when they called. Be assured the Eers would jump just as quickly as we would, were the ACC ever to come calling for them. I hope the SEC picks them up.
Somehow I got stuck
Between the rock and the hard place
Tech is in a public relations mess now. Should the ACC offer, we’d be idiots to reject it, and treacherous idiots as well, betraying Warner, Kilgore and Casteen, who have all expended tremendous political capital. On the other hand, we’d still be betraying the leftover BE schools. Basically, it sucks all-around.
And I’m down on my luck [repeat 2x]
Pretty much the whole Big East fits here.
Now I’m hiding in Honduras
I’m a desperate man
This actually fits two players here. UVa president John Casteen left for Great Britain Wednesday night, and probably half-wishes that his cell phone wouldn’t work there.
Meanwhile, ACC commissioner John Swofford is the most desperate of the bunch. His job is guaranteed gone if expansion fails, and may be gone anyway with the PR screwups he’s made.
Send lawyers, guns and money
The s*** has hit the fan
Send lawyers, guns and money…
Pretty good summary, isn’t it?
