Quick Thoughts on the Passover Massacre
Today, we find out whether the Arab states are really serious about accepting Israel’s right to existence and self-defense within its own borders. When evaluating the Israeli response to the Passover massacre during a Seder meal at Netanya (well inside 1948-1967 Israel), just think about this one thing: what would the Arab states do if Israelis bombed a mosque during Eid ul-Fitr? One of the Arab states might try to nuke Tel Aviv.
The argument that Yasser Arafat is primarily concerned with saving his own ass definitely has merit. Even independent of whether he still acts out of sheer malice toward Israel and Jews in general, the effective dictator of a state or state-like entity (the Palestinian Authority, which he very much wants to turn into a recognized government) cannot allow this kind of thing to happen. Allowing the recent attacks to happen (whether by al-Fatah or Hamas) indicates that he has decided that such things are in his personal and the Palestinian national interest. There are consequences to that sort of decision, and he has earned them.
So who believes in justice and peace? We find out today.
